Debt crises, national security, health care take forefront at Domenici Public Policy Conference

The nation’s debt crisis, national security and health care reform were the hot-button topics experts addressed at the 2011 Domenici Public Policy Conference. “Under the leadership of Sen. Pete Domenici and the NMSU Domenici Institute Advisory Committee, we assembled an outstanding lineup of national leaders to discuss very topical policy issues, to include the competitiveness of U.S. education, health care reform, the national debt and national security — all issues that the senator has championed for many years,” said Garrey Carruthers.. Domenici documentary premieres at policy conference

NMSU College of Business honors 2011 Hall of Fame inductees

High school sweethearts who married after graduating from New Mexico State University, a hometown girl who is now an executive at a children’s products company in California, and a beloved member of the faculty who helped the university make its mark on professional golf were among those inducted into the College of Business 2011 Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony took place Sept. 23, at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum. Established in 1997 by the College of Business, the Hall of Fame honors outstanding business college alumni who have distinguished themselves in their careers. Read more….

College is working toward an endowed chair in accounting

Efforts are underway to raise funds to convert a professorship named after a legendary former head of the accounting department into a fully endowed chair. “He was known for being tough as nails, but a lot of his former students have been very successful in practice,” said Ed Scribner, head of the College of Business’ Accounting and Information Systems Department. Last year, longtime New Mexico State University supporters and alumni, Mike and Judy Gray Johnson, donated $250,000 to create the Lionel Haight Professorship in Accounting. Haight was famous for his demanding classes. Following the initial gift, Scribner and assistant dean for development, Andrea Tawney, began working hard to raise money in order to turn the Haight Professorship into an endowed chair. Read more…

New international energy conference has its roots at NMSU

New Mexico State University’s Re-Energize America energy conferences are the framework for a new multinational, multi-partner event called Re-Energize the Americas set to take place in October. It will be the first regional conference to position the Paso del Norte Region as a global leader in sustainable energy. For the last two years, NMSU’s Re-Energize America conference was aimed at actively engaging leaders in government, industry and academia about issues critical to America’s energy future. A series of events and opportunities for partnerships led to the original conference expanding in size and scope. Read more….

NMSU conference connects technology entrepreneurs and researchers to potential clients

The business of ensuring the nation’s security has evolved into a vast and intimidating industry, but that doesn’t mean entrepreneurs and innovative researchers are shut out of the field. The 2011 National Security Technology Conference & Expo, hosted by New Mexico State University’s Arrowhead Center, is committed to helping entrepreneurs and researchers create networks, get valuable advice about venture capital and log face time with representatives from some of the biggest names in national security.
